Norway

Although the Norweigan landscapes don’t require many words, the images speak for themselves, I still want to share a couple of things.

Norway wasn’t really in my plan (as far as I had a plan), but Nordkap came quickly on the radar since it s a popular bicycle travel destination. At a certain moment I started to doubt if I really wanted to do the cape itself but then I heard about the peninsula just east of Nordkap that reaches out a km further up north in the ocean. No infrastructure for mass tourisme but a nice hiking trail and perfect scenery for a overnight with the tent.

Further southwards I enjoyed Senja island lot. For the popular Lofoten islands I wasn’t lucky since I had to pedal 4 days in a row in a western storm, me going from east to west that meant lots of headwind, rain, snow, hail, sun… I saw a lot of the road a few meters ahead of me and not so much of the beautiful surrounding. The sunset at Haukland beach made up for that, one of the most spectacular and fast changing light conditions I have ever witnessed.

The little tour around Jostedalsbreen glacier was totally worth it and has put some more altitude meters on my record.

Oslo itself didn’t really speak to me, but has some interesting squats and temporary occupation. More on that in a next blog about the cities I visited.
